The Thurston County Sheriff’s Jeep Patrol was organized in 1973 as an auxiliary unit of the Sheriff’s Department.  Our non-profit unit provides a well-trained 4×4 team of volunteers to support the county during regional emergencies.

We are proud to offer our search and rescue services to out-of-county agencies. We have assisted in search efforts in Mason, Pierce, Lewis, Cowlitz, Skamania, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Wahkiakum and King Counties.

Our unit meets monthly to discuss training, previous missions and unit policies in an effort to build our strength as a team.

Training for the unit is hands-on, in-the-field and classroom training, focusing on: map & compass reading, GPS training, first aid & CPR, off-road driving skills, urban search techniques, wilderness survival, radio communication training, and team building.

Our unit participates in a wide variety of events for the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. We participate in the Tumwater 4th of July Parade, provide traffic control as requested throughout the year and volunteer our time to assist with other County events.
